Sat, 30 January 2010 ![]() Hello braindamaged listeners... I figured I'd pop in and give a little update just in case you are wondering where/when the podcast is... It's in the works and has been for a while... I am considering posting something in the meantime but I'm so immersed in what I'm currently doing, its hard to think of something else. Anyway... During the Holiday break I was given a recording of a Floyd gig from the taper himself. Funny thing too is I met the taper at the exact spot where it was recorded 22 years ago. That's a hint by the way... His recording is really good, with little crowd noise but had a lot of hiss. Not long after, I found another recording of the same gig but the sound was much better but had crowd noise and two very wasted girls nearby. After listening to each intently, I discovered that one recording picked up particular sounds that the other didn't and vice versa. I know the venue very well (there's another hint) and I can tell where each taper was located just from listening...but anyway, it got me thinking how it would sound if I put the two together. So that’s what I've been working on. I already remastered both but more so with the better sounding of the two and I'm using the lesser one as an ambient filler if you will. The process of syncing the two recordings is very tedious due to the recordings being at different speeds and to top it off the speed shifts throughout the lesser recording making the process even more difficult. The result however dramatically adds to the atmosphere. I can't wait to finish it. Thanks for your patience! Doc Category: general -- posted at: 9:32 PM Comments[21] |
Mon, 11 January 2010 ![]() Show #146 Release date: 11. January, 2010 Welcome back! During the holiday break Harvested Records gave a select few a sneak peak at an upcoming project with a set of master recordings from Floyd's 1971 Montreux gig. These are the raw files as received and Harvested will be creating a definitive version in the near future. The taper used 2 Sennheiser MD-421 and a Uher 4200 reel to reel recorder at 19ips. Concerning his rig at the time, he had the following to say about it... "I had my UHER 'custom unbuilt' in multiple parts, so I could sneak it in more discretely. Then I built a whole 'neck-holder' (like the one Bob Dylan's used to hold the harp), a heavy construction sewed in a tough-tissued jacket (often way to hot to bear at concerts) and the two mics were placed niftily beside each ear hidden by my long hair..." He also went on to say that he's never released this recording directly from the master tapes... that is until now. The Pavillion, Montreux, Switzerland, 18. September 1971. 01. Echoes 02. careful With That Axe Eugene 03. Set The Controls For The Heart of The Sun 04. Cymbaline 05. Atom Heart Mother (with The London Philharmonic Orchestra and choir) 06. A Saucerful of Secrets Running time: 2hr:00min:50sec Comments[22] |
Thu, 3 December 2009 ![]() This is something I mentioned in the recent podcast below but thought I post it here too. About a month ago the powers that be at my radio station, WAAF asked if I could help them with doing a Pink Floyd weekend focusing in on "The Wall". Finally their resident Floyd DJ is called into action! I was only asked to provide material but I wasn't involved in the actual programming... unfortunately. Anyway, that weekend is now upon us and it's a "Walls Of Floyd Weekend" on WAAF. We're celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Wall, by giving you 30 minute Pink Floyd blocks (get it?) every hour all this weekend! I'll be on the air Saturday Night from 7pm to 12midnight EST (-5) here in the Eastern New England area on 107.3fm and 97.7fm WAAF. If you are not local, you can still listen on line here! For when in your local time zone, click here! It will be a little different from what you hear in my podcasts but it'll be almost as if Brain Damage was back on the radio again before it was a podcast. If you are in the area, join me and WAAF as we kick off our Pink Floyd weekend with Pink Floyd tribute band, The Machine at Showcase Live on Friday night. Doors at 6pm, show at 8pm. Showcase Live is located at Patriot Place, next to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA. That's not all! After the show, we'll have a movie screening of "The Wall" in Showcase Cinema Delux right next door at Midnight. I'll see you there! Category: News -- posted at: 11:54 AM Comments[23] |
Tue, 1 December 2009 ![]() Show #145 Release date: 01. December, 2009 Ivor Wynne Stadium, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, 28. June 1975. Here's a gig that been long overdue for a podcast.. This features the second to last performance of Echoes with Roger still in the band. Their performance is excellent and the sound is amazing (after fixing it up of course). It was the last show of the North American Tour so in a dramatic finale, Pink Floyd's crew decided to go out with a bang and used up their remaining pyrotechnics around the stadium scoreboard. The explosion at the climax of the show was so intense it blew the scoreboard to pieces and shattered windows in neighboring houses. All in the name of Floyd. Please note this will be the last podast of 2009. I wish you a safe and happy holiday season and a peaceful New Year! Set One: 01. Raving and Drooling 02.You Gotta Be Crazy 03. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (parts 1-5) 04. Have A Cigar 05. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (parts 6-9) Set Two: 06. Speak To Me 07. Breathe 08. On The Run 09. Time 10. The Great Gig In The Sky 11.
