Show #181, Release date: 27. January, 2012

First, I very big happy birthday to Nick Mason, who celebrates his 68th today.  Happy Birthday Nick and many happy returns!

2012 marks Floydpodcast's 7th year!  What better way to start it all off than without Pink Floyd.  Thats right, I asked some of you on the Floydpodcast Facebook Page to suggest an idea and this was one of them.  I've been meaning to do this kind of a podcast for a long time and it turned out to be one of the more challanging ones I've put together.  For this, we take a look at work Floyd members have done for other musicians.  It's an interesting listen and I hope you enjoy.

  • Really good! I'm always looking for new ways of listening to Floyd members.
It is a little bit different from listening to Floyd, but gives a fresh perspective to it. Also you can always tell there's PF sound in those songs, somehow.
Great job! Great work you always do!!

  • Hey Dan. There's 'Brooklyns' across the street from the venue. The place is usually hopping before a show. I won't be there but have a killer time!

  • Hey Doc, long-time listener, love what you do man! I have a question for ya. I'm going to The Wall live in Denver. Do you know any cool bars that are great for before and after parties near the Pepsi Center Arena? Or are you possibly going to the same show? If so where are ya gonna have a before show party? Thanks for the amazing pod casts! Keep up the good work!

  • thank you very much doc for another excellent podcast. great idea! i'm pretty ignorant about pink floyd members collaborations (i hadn't heard nearly half of these songs before) but most of all i didn't know anything about the kevin ayers/syd barrett story so... thanks twice!!
that was a big surprise for me.
can't wait for the next pre-immersion podcast: the wall means very much to me.
    (pre-order done weeks ago!)
p.s. i thought it was time for a small donation. it's not much (i'm nearly broke!), but it's the least i can do to thank you for the beautiful hours of listening you provide us.

  • Excellent one Doc; years ago I thought I was largely alone as one of those dedicated (saddo?!) to try and compile own (car use) mixtapes, similarly of Dave's 'guitar4hire(lost!)' period - but which, pleasingly, sometimes got surprised reactions('which album is that then?'), so real good2hear this: I would only add, don't forget his Arcadia contribs + find the 12" extended version of Ferry's 'Is your love' to get the full DG workout :-)
Liked your comment/observations on his likely 'frustrated' Floyd contribs, plus, fully tuning into ya 'just a dollar' would do if ALL who listened contributed, here's another token gesture from me :-) (Likewise 4me with employ matters; if a hoped for deal comes thru on my meagre radio spot out here, promise i'll be back with the more that really is so richly deserved by your much appreciated dedication and work.)
In da meantime, let's keep hoping 4 an 'Animals' immersion set - altho I wonder if the flood of materials has blunted the financial rip EMI/PFM had hoped for?!!

  • Interesting to hear how adaptable Gilmour has been to other people's work! Still prefer the balls-out soloing on the McCartney and Townsend tracks though.

  • Will start listening now, but this is a brilliant idea. I love collectors who are also completists!
May the Floyd be with you always, Doc!

  • I have been waiting for this for a long time.
You could actually do an entire podcast for the Gilmour stuff alone. There is quite a bit. Sad to see the stuff he did with Chris Jagger not make the list, maybe next time')

  • Great show! This would satisfy any Floyd nut! A definite 'listen again and again' show. So much I didn't know. Loved Marian Faithful & Religious Experience especially. Donation made, with pleasure! Thanks (yet again) Doc! You're my inspiration (as you well know).
