Show #171, Release date: 15. June, 2011

Heres a long overdue Animals gig.  This particular recording comes a month after the album's release.  The audience is generally very quiet and respectful, which is a refreshing change from the standard audience recording from this tour.  Not a single firework to be heard!  Live from Pavillion de Paris, Porte de Pantin, Paris, France, 22. February, 1977.

Set One:
01. Sheep
02. Pigs On The Wing (part 1)
03. Dogs
04. Pigs On The Wing (part 2)
05. Pigs (three different ones)

Set Two:
06. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (parts 1-5)
07. Welcome To The Machine
08. Have A Cigar
09. Wish You Were Here
10. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (parts 6-9)

Encore:
11. Money

  • @Symoon... Roger is asked "who came up with the idea for the cover of Animals" to which Roger replied, "I did". come from an interview done for OTRF's arts program "JA2 2OH" and broadcast a day before this concert. You might find it on Yeeshkul

  • That for this very nice show!
Any idea where I could find the complete interview of Roger replying "I did" when asked who decided to the name and sleeve for Animals?

  • Doc. Thank you. I love these European shows. The music is very clear and as mentioned before. I love the quiet audience.

  • The new ending of Brick II sounds a little bit too simple for Floyd's standards. I think the guitar solo from The Final Cut (the title track) would fit nicely in that place. If Roger is planning to add more of those little snippets, I think The Final Cut album would be a great source.

  • An early Animals show! Many thanks Doc.

Agree with he above - this performance feels tighter and far more disciplined than the riotous US dates. Much as I love those later stadium shows cut loose, they really let it go on songs like "Machine" which did not need Roger trying to drown David out on vocals.

  • Many thanks for another '77, Doc - always love that vintage.

I'm one of those picky souls who is more excited about the possibility of an Animals Immersion edition than any of the releases already announced (okay, I think Wish You Were Here with Grappeli will be very cool. But Wembley '74 is going to have to sound pretty ridiculously good to improve upon what we already have, and spreading it over two different box sets? Really??)

Anyway, I did "listen closely" but I'm still curious why you think Set 1 makes it obvious why they wouldn't release this show? Feedback during Dogs. Some rough vocals (which happened all over the '77 tour). Otherwise, sounds pretty good to me. What did I miss?

Thanks again for all the goods you share.

  • Thank you Doc. I guess the French audience is more disciplined that their Canadian cousins (just an assumption, I am neither French nor Canadian). Steve, apart from the first 3 words, your "machine translated" comment does not mean anything, but is quite funny! I know who you are: you must be the guy who translated the user notice of my son's RC car (made in China of course).
