Show #91, Release date: 4. August, 2007

Roger’s KAOS on the road tour lasted only three months and was predominately a North American tour.  Many of Rogers’ gigs were canceled due to poor ticket sales perhaps largely in part by the fact that Pink Floyd was also touring North America at around the same time.

Only two soundboard recordings of live KAOS exist.  Both were later broadcast and have FM quality reception so it adds to the "radio" feel.  This podcast is a mix of those two, one being mostly from Quebec and the other, recorded two weeks later from Wembley.  The remaining gaps were filled using audio taken from an amateur video recording in Quebec.  Unfortunately not every song performed was broadcast and there are no complete soundboard gigs from this tour.  Even the audience recordings seem to be scarce.

  • hi Hixem,
...well, if you can do better... anyway, very observant of you but still nobody, including you has gotten the message at the end of the podcast.

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I\'ve always had the idea of compiling different recordings of this tour to make a complete concert. And there you came and it\'s done !!! And very well done.

But... but... the downside is that you didn\'t include \"Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert\" and \"Southampton Dock\" from the Quebec recording (professionnal quality) and instead you chose an amateur recording which is rather poor.

Secondly, there is a very good audience recording from Poplar Creeks September 9th 1987 that could have been used to fill the gaps instead of the poor camcorder version from the Quebec show. But I understand you probably didn\'t want to mix too much different show into one.

Anyway, keep the good work. It\'s always a pleasure to listen to your podcasts.

  • This show is absolutely awesome. Thank you so much for compiling this. I'm definitely going to go get Radio K.A.O.S. because of this recording. This stuff definitely helps promote the artist and thanks for making this available.

  • Real mixed bag this one. I\'ve got about half of the show on CD. Quality is top notch, but some the arrangements are cheezy as. I think the problem is way too much saxophone. Nothing against Mel Collins either, but the sax in Wish You Were Here really grates.

On the other hand when Rog stuck closer to the original arrangments it was brilliant. Another Brick starts out well, then instead of building up from Happiest Days into Part 2, then bottom just drops out. Same with the segue from Brain Damage (whoda thunk it was a country and western song?) into Eclipse. Instead of the big build up into the soaring climax, it\'s all very subdued. Thankfully he\'s stuck much closer to the orginal arrangements lately.

Shame the Floyd stuff is such a mixed bag (why couldn\'t we have a longer version of Pigs TDO??) because the KAOS stuff is really good (lurve the Carrack). I\'ve always had a soft spot for that album and the last two songs always leave a lump in my throat even 20 years on.

Anyone else think Bono saw a KAOS live show and said \"Boys, oi\'ve got this oidea for a big multimeeja show. We\'ll call it Zoo TV\"...?

  • Thank You, Doctor! We are all lucky to have you spreading all of these quality podcasts. I only recently found the site, so I am still trying to catch up...

But, rather than continue my chronological journey through your podcasts, I had to listen to this one out of order.
When asked what the best concert I ever saw was, my reply, without hesitation is: Roger Waters, Radio KAOS, McNichols Arena, September 1987. This has been my answer for almost 20 years now. The concert was as much about the music as it was the show and the concept. I never got to see Pink Floyd in concert, so this was probably the closest I\'ll ever come.
I can\'t tell you how awesome it is to be reliving that experience with this podcast.
Thank you again Doctor! Keep up the good work!

  • there are no known recordings of \"tempted\" from the KAOS tour.

its well known that the callers were actually local radio station winners selected from a contest to ask a question during the concert.
What we hear in this concert are pre-recorded questions for the Westwood One Radio Network presentation and that is why we hear each caller mention a station name. it was not done randomly. that would of been a logistical nightmare.

  • I saw this show in Austin and I really enjoyed it. The crowd was very small, but enthusiastic. I also felt the call in people were "planted" in some way, the questions just seemed a little too convenient.

One aside, to open the show Paul Carrack sang "tempted" all by himself. It was really a nice surprise. Did you find this at all in any of your tapes? It would be nice to hear again.

    Great job Doctor!

  • I am impressed by the work you put into this a labor of love indeed. My only regret is that is missed this show when it came around to L.A. as I was on my honeymoon then.

  • Hi Doc,

Yet another wonderful podcast. I'm amazed that fortnight after fortnight you put together these fantastic shows for us all to enjoy as they must be very time consuming and, I'm sure, quite difficult sometimes to piece together. However, please keep up the good work as I personally thoroughly enjoy each and every one of them. Thank you!

A quick observation about this podcast: Firstly, well done you. However, I'm glad that Roger is now sticking to the original arrangements of his back catalogue, that 80's sound is so, er, 80's!

Hey, here's a suggestion for a future podcast (just in case you're running out of inspiration). It's pretty common knowledge that the Wall was, at one time, going to be 3 x lps and that some of the stuff from The Final Cut was reworked from The Wall 'off cuts'. How about trying to recreate The Wall to it's original length of 3 x lps using tracks from the movie soundtrack and The Final Cut. It would be quite tricky working out where to slot in the extra tracks but a bit of fun never the less.

    Cheers for now, Kevan.

  • I had a cassette of the Quebec broadcast a long time ago. It\'s nice to hear it without the so-80s-they-make-you-want-to-stab-yourself-in-the-eye-with-a-fork commercials. I particularly disliked a certain Certs commercial. It made me want to temporarily suspend my personal \"don\'t violently murder anyone\" rule.
