Show #60, date: 23. June, 2006

This special edition of Brain Damage includes covers of favorite Pink Floyd tunes performed by other major recording artists.  I'm very picky when other people cover Floyd music but I enjoy all these bands individually.  Nick Mason feels innovative covers are more preferable to tribute bands.  You be the judge.

  1. Camper Van Beethoven - Interstellar Overdrive [Extra Tracks]
  2. Velvet Revolver - Money [Slither EP single]
  3. David Bowie - See Emily Play [Pin Ups]
  4. The Soft Boys - Vegetable Man [Underwater Moonlight]
  5. Bim Skala Bim - Brain Damage [Bones]
  6. Colonel Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade - Pigs (Three Different Ones) [Live Set 2]
  7. Jack Irons w/Eddy Vedder - Shine On You Crazy Diamond [Attention Dimension]
  8. Class of 99 - Another Brick In The Wall (part 1) [The Faculty soundtrack]
  9. Dream Theater - Sheep [Soundcheck/Rehearsal, Anaheim, CA., 9. March, 2006]
  10. Foo Fighters w/Brian May - Have A Cigar [Mission Impossible soundtrack]
  11. KoRn - Another Brick In The Wall (parts 1, 2 & 3) [Greatest Hits, vol.1]
  12. Shadows Fall - Welcome To The Machine [The Art of Balance]
  13. Dream Theater - Dark Side of The Moon in its entirety [Hammersmith Apollo, London, England, 25. October, 2005]
  14. Dream Theater - One of These Days [Rotterdam, Holland, 18. January, 2004]

Special thanks to Russell Gillett

  • I have a copy of The Dan Reed Network's version of Money lying around somewhere... an interesting to be fair...

Some excellent stuff on this podcast. Les Claypools Pigs in particulaer along with the versions of Brain Damage and Have A Cigar.

However Dream Theater's DSOTM was the height of self-indulgent rubbish IMO.

  • Nice Doc!
I would like to suggest the PRIMUS rendition of "Have a Cigar" for the next "Covers" podcast.
    Thanks !

  • I loved this podcast, it is always great to hear other interpretations of well known songs!! I would love to hear another one somewhere down the road. Or now that David Gilmour has finally done Wearing the Inside Out a live version of some of the best sources of all the songs (except cluster one) would be cool or some of the other albums with the best versions of roio sources).

  • Great show. Dream theatre are so good. I aint a korn fan and thought they butchered ABW 123. But hey that only my opinion. Shadows fall excellent, but didn't like the foo's and mays have a cigar. sounds to rushed and they couldn't grasp the song. very messy version. Soft boys rock, velvet revolvers money is lame. Vocals are poor.

Keep up the great shows doc.

  • Great stuff. I prefer the Pink Floyd you cannot buy to be on here. Let people go and buy the original Floyd stuff. This 'covers' pod is great, I really enjoyed it, I must admit. Keep it going!!

  • Great Pod Cast
Just wanted to comment on the upcoming pod casts. The L.A. Shows were not of any great quality or performance IMO (though the stage fire was entertaining).Instead of waisting three whole shows couldn't you just do the highlights of each show into ONE show. Then Highlight three N.Y. shows next time etc. etc. I don't know.
Just do what you do, You're doing a great job.

  • nooice one a mention of korn, i realy loved when they did this cover, it was the joining of my fav 2 bands. At first i thought it would be rubish, but the first time i heard jon davis sing part one, sent shivers down my spine.
They did it good live too.
One anoying cover is the velvet revolver and foo fighters covers, they sounded too forced and not from their inspired hearts, and slash trying to out-do gilmore.. tut tut haha
keep up the good work : )

  • Great podcast, Doc! And thanks for the mention about the DT stuff. A very humbling experience, I must say... never been mentioned or thanked on a podcast before. But now I can that I have. Thanks again.
