Show #117 Release date: 07. September, 2008 Sorry for the slight delay on getting this one out. Getting used to my new work schedule is proving to be more difficult than I thought. For this podcast I decided to revisit an old theme previously done on show #60, "Covers” but this time I reach a little deeper in the bag for some more obscure and new Floyd songs covered by other artists. Enjoy! Running time: 1h:32m:22s Comments[34]

- Thank you Mark! You should check out this podcast! :)
- I was pleasantly surprised by the cover of "Shine on You Crazy Diamond". Normally (eg. Snowy White on Roger Waters' set) the guitarist attempts to do 'a Dave Gilmour' and it sounds horrible. But the Toto guy (I forget his name) takes it his own way and as a result it sounds really quite good!
Blue Man Group + "One of These Days" is a match made in heaven too.
Brick II was listenable as well (I don't particularly like original - Floyd's *classic* is vastly overrated).
"Money" was also given some real life too!
But for me, the cover of "Echoes" was the peak of the collection. A fucking breathtaking performance! - Thanks Doc,
Rosebud\'s disco \"Cigar\" was played to death so thanks for avoiding it. But if you have their \"Money\" or one of the other ones it could make good comic relief next year for your 3.0 cover posting!
Also I never knew Calif. Guitar Trio had covered Echoes; thanks for re-awakening my interest in these \"crafty\" (Fripp protoges) guys, who used to tour with Tony Levin. I had forgotten all about them, but was all over their stuff 15 years ago. - RIP RW. The world has lost a gem whose quiet dignity was the backbone of PF from the very start. I actually received my first copy of Broken China today and was transfreeing it to my MP3 to listen to tonight on a trip to London when I saw the news on BBC - I will be one sad dude
- This was my first listen to your podcost. It was awesome! I'm hooked now. I went back to listen to the other Covers show, and love that you've included all these Animals songs in both shows. I read someone's comment about a Dream Theater version of Dark Side. That would be awesome to hear.
- great podcast, doc, thanks a lot!! I'd agree on the dogs cover, it's absolutely outstanding, vocally mr. claypool really is very close to roger imo, which is sth. very hard to achieve... ann wilson's cover is also really really cool....! nice one, and thanks again!
cheers, bernhard - Steve, Aussie's good, real good, but if you want a real treat catch The Machine if they come by your area... You never know what you'll get show to show and you always get a little extra! If The Machine was playing 2 hours away on the same night Aussie was playing locally I'd see The Machine, no question. Joe, love the Blue Floyd suggestion, too bad these guys aren't still at it!
- I dig it, but Blue Floyd is more or less a tribute band, or a side project for the guys in bigger bands. You should check out the Benivenito/Russo's cover of Fearless. I like the way Blue Floyd does unigue interpratations of Floyd songs (or for Seamus, add new lyrics). I have a few BF shows if you want any to check out
- hahaha...I thought of it though. There lots of other covers I could of included. Some don't/didn't make the cut because its not that great. Like I said in "Covers", I'm very picky when other artists do a Floyd cover. The songs I include have my seal of approval.
- Great show as always...and good timing: A great cover podcast (Coverville) just did a show dedicated to Pink Floyd covers: http://www.coverville.com/archives/2008/09/coverville_502.html
I especially liked the covers of Fearless and The Gunners Dream.
Thanks again for a great show!
- Seriously indebted to you for all these fabulous podcasts. Your love and respect for the band shines through. They are truly the "motherload" of classic archive Floyd and innovative playlists. My journey to work is now a real pleasure so major thanks and respect for the this site and all this beautiful music you're putting out there.
