Show #132 Release date: 10. May, 2009 This is a little experiment I've been thinking about for a long time. I just got back from a week on the west coast and the amount of time left to get a new podcast done properly is running short. I figured this is might be the perfect opportunity to reintroduce some archived and forgotten about episodes. This previous podcast, originally BD42 "Floyd's Worst Moments", featured some of Floyd's not so good moments on stage dealing with technical glitches, power outages, Mother nature and Roger's short temper to name a few. ...rather fitting after the last podcast. So, is reintroducing older podcasts an idea worth perusing every once in a while? Please leave your comments and ideas. 01. Astronomy Domine [Pepperland Auditorium, San Rafael, Ca, 17. - Hey Doc... there's good versions here... I wish you could put some material from the "obscured by clouds" era... I usually listened the first two tracks, but i would like to hear "childhood's end" or "mudmen"... i hope you can put some podcast from this age... and of course more agressive live versions from Syd barret era. Cheers!
- My vote would be don't repackage old podcasts unless you do something to make them notably improved/different, such as improving the sound quality.
I love your podcasts and already have them all in my collection. Repeats would just clutter up my already too-full hard drives.
BTW, I understand how it is possible to get too busy to make new podcasts. I get too busy to listen to all the new podcasts. If you really have to, take more time between podcasts. - The concept is good, but I'd stick to shows no longer available to be downloaded. When I came on board and worked my way back as far as I could go, the earliest podcast I could get was somewhere in the mid-30s. A re-tweaked version is always a pleasure, too.

- doc-
I have no problem with the occasional re-run, and this was a particularly excellent podcast, and one well worth re-visiting, so its all good! Roger is hilarious when yelling at "the stupid motherfucker".
Now, how's about a Barrett era show, doctored for super sound, of course! - Hi! Love the podcasts- don't care how long it takes OR if they're reruns!
I'm commenting today in a panic because one of my favorite websites where I go to get my Floyd fix is not responding today. I haven't misbehaved, and was wondering if anyone had any news on this.
Sorry in advance for using this forum to ask an unrelated question, Doc. I hope you understand. It wouldn't happen if it wasn't important. Peace. - Well... count me as a grateful fan who would be perfectly happy to wait a full month for something new, as opposed to a "reissue". The archive could become kind of overlapped and redundant. I understand why you "represented" the Animals tour in Oakland a few months ago, as a new (arguably) superior source-tape had emerged. But straight flashbacks of old material? I'd rather not.
Of course, I don't HAVE to download it, so what am I complaining about?... - Doc,
...as I've said before, I'm cool with an occasional flash back, if it helps avoid 'dead air'....
But, perhaps, when your time and energies are limited, there is a third alternative between a "flashback re-run" and a simple "wait till next time...." .
...perhaps something like 'Facts from the Floyd Library" As you know, there are some GREAT Floyd books around ( I'm re-reading the updated issue of Mike Watkinson & Pete Anderson's "Crazy Diamond" ) but not everyone has or reads these books...
Maybe, when an 'off week" rolls around, you could impart some interesting story, paraphrased or simply read, from one of the many books and articles around...something short & sweet, maybe 3-5 minutes, but genuinely interesting and informative to the wider Floyd Fan base.
Production could be minimalist ( maybe a low volume soundtrack in the background ) & this would be interesting and informative in its own right PLUS provide that valuable input from "The Doctor" on a still-regular basis....
...just another idea...
again, like folks scattered over the globe, I remain grateful--and appreciative--for your Wonderful contributions ....

- Doc,
Hey man I'm a long time listener and an infrequent poster. But I would like to cast my vote for you doing whatever you feel is best. I know if I tried to do this show it would be a catastrophe. Personally I am against the reposting of an old show with no changes simply due to the fact that it has always been obtainable ever since you first put it on the site. Then on the other side of things I am totally fine with it since I know that everyone may not be like myself with extra external hard drives purely DEVOted to music. Also I think that you should not worry if life gets too busy for a fresh cast every two weeks. We all recognize the heart and soul that you put into these podcasts and understand it must be very time consuming. You have touched many lives with this show I am sure. I for one have been in some very dark times recently; and it was the Doctor and the Floyd who I turned to for hope. I went back and relistened to every show all the way thru in order over the last six weeks starting at the beginning of April. I actually found it kind of funny that this was the newest post right as I finished; it must be a sign that I should begin the whole journey again! Thanks for all you do; now It's Medication Time Ka - I was at the Earls Court 'seating collapse' - it broke my heart. Not only was it my birthday, but they were about to play a 'Dark Side' show. Even though I got back to see them twice more, I never saw them play DSotM.
You're the best Doc, so keep 'em coming - though I prefer not to have re-runs (especially when they break my heart!). - Hey man, you rock. Thanks from the bottom of my heart, AGAIN.
If there were anyone out there cosmically meant to do a show of this nature.
It's definitely an art and you have a gift.
This podcast, along with the Deadpod, constitute at least 30% of the music I enjoy during the week.
Amazing stuff. - Hey Doc,
Great show as always...and I appreciate all you do. I've never heard a clinker yet my friend. As for the trip down memory lane; well how can we move forward without revisitiong the past from time-to-time. This is probably the only page I faithfully come back to consistantly and it is truely 'The Definitive Pink Floyd Podcast'.
Keep Rockin' us Doc!

- Hi Steve,
"jump the shark" is a term i use a lot but i'm not sure what context you're referring to.
for those that don't know what "jump the shark" means... its a term used to describe a moment when something that was once great has reached a point where it will now decline in quality and popularity.
can you elaborate a little Steve? - Doc,
I enjoyed the show! I think it's awesome that every two weeks we get to hear an amazing Floyd show as a result of your hard work so if you need a break it's all good.
I also like the idea of a "best of" show, but I think I prefer that you turned that around to have a "worst of". Too many "best of" things around - anyone remember "A Collection of Great Dance Songs"? That wasn't really the best of anything... :D
Thanks Doc!
-Tim - Thanks guys for the comments. I do feel bad... the reposting could be seen as a cop out of sorts but I do get lots of emails from people that request podcasts that have already been done and don't realize there is an achieve. A best of is good idea though. Any yes, Maff... a big thanks for the novel of emails you sent. We can blame you for the delay! HAHAHAHA!
I do plan on posting a new podcast this coming weekend. Normally each podcast takes up to 6 to 10 hours to produce and that's not including prep time which takes up to a week or so. - I think our Doc is entitled to make a bit if time for himself by re-deploying previous 'casts.
Think of it as re-cycling........
I agree that perhaps a "best of" would be ok - maybe this would be a good compromise - is it easier to re-edit and produce a compilation rather than a completely new show? Especially considering the effort required to process audio which is, by its nature, often not so good to begin with.
Many Thanks. - For me personally, I would rather wait for a new "Doctored" FloydCast then to re-visit something that we can still access anyway. That brings me to the question of are your Podcasts going to stay on the website for an indefinite period of time? Will you warn us when you take them off the site so we can listen one more time? I have 2 iPods and one of them has just your podcasts on them. It's great for trips. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Steve
- oi doc,
no reason at all to feel bad. I think refeaturing themes is a decent thing, my idea would be to update (if that is possible anyway) the content a bit though, maybe you have different/changed/evolved thoughts on some of the features, different examples, something you would like to add, that would be exciting to hear. maybe a different angle of observation so to speak, if you get my idea.
but again, no reasons to feel bad here, you do an ever so awesome job in bringing us floyd, and not the least your (!) take on floyd. it\'s an enriching thing to hear you talk and learn about your thoughts. time constraints are a pain so many of us are afftected by, myself included.
so that said, in case you sometimes feel there\'s only so much left to say about some themes, aside from lacking time, I say feel free to juggle up things and go into freeform... you\'re great at doing that.
all the best,
bernhard - I worship your work. I store my favorite podcasts, though (and the Electric Factory show is a permanent iFixture). Then, when my drives went bonky and I lost 40 gigs of music, I went back through all the old episodes again. So, your re-upping isn\'t really necessary for me. I don\'t mind if you miss a week or three. I can\'t believe how consistent your podcast is, and you can cut yourself some slack. If others want the reups, that\'s cool, too, no sweat.
- Doctor, love all the good work from here in Blighty. My mother was (briefly) their live in janitor at Britannia Row but managed to blow the gig. How different could life have been!
Hey, if you're republishing it's the pre-episode 38's I'd love to hear...
Keep up the good work.
F - Doc,
I am self-proclaimed your biggest fan, and you know I love ya, but you have an archive for a reason. haha. I mean I know you have a very busy schedule and because of that, this is undersandable, but re-introducing older podcasts that you have done is kinda cheesy especially since you can just scroll down the page and listen to it again...
Still love this episode, though.
Danny
