Show #138 Release date: 1. August, 2009 One hundred podcasts and 4 years ago this show entered the digital realm. I had no clue what I was doing and I never imagined it would become so well received. I can't thank you enough for your support. For this special 100th edition, you'll get to enjoy Brain Damage this time in video. Remember when MTV actually played music videos? That's what this is like. Before becoming a radio DJ, I worked in video production when BetaSP and 3/4" Umatic were kings. A lot has changed since I left, so here I am again with no clue what I'm doing. Quicktime is required to watch. The file is large, at 654,135 KB which is 5 times the size of a normal podcast. I'm in the process of trying to figure how to embed a video window here. If you click on the file below it will launch Quicktime, but be patient. Otherwise I recommend you right click and save as. I have to thank my good friend Michelle for this would not of been possible without her. Please enjoy (I hope this works on your end)! 01. The Gunner's Dream [The Final Cut Video EP] 02. - AWESOME, not as usual, but even better than ever!
There's just one little tiny problem: I can't listen to it in my iPod... probably it's my bad; I should buy me a new iPod; one of these fancy ones with the ability of showing video. Meanwhile I should say I personally like to imagine my own pictures & stories while listening to favorite music.
Again, this videocast is really a nice treat but I hope you don't forget the good 'ol podcast... otherwise you should mark that red PODCAST on top of the page with another color & write VIDEOCAST ;) - Hey Doc. Thanks so much for going to all the trouble of setting up this vidcast. Its ace! It might be my ears, but some of the FC songs on the EP( which I've never heard or seen before) appear to be a little different to the album versions. Do you have the story behind this? (if, indeed, there is one) Thanks bud. Neil.
- Just watched the podcast and I really loved it! Great work doc, I'd definitley like to see something like this again in the future?
BTW... After Comfortabaly Numb, you said the gig was Aug 9th, 1990 - whoops hahaha!!! I thought it was 1980 :-P - Wonderful idea Doc, wonderful idea. I can't wait to watch this vidcast later. As a video/film production student, PF superfan & a final cut user, this one looks very interesting and any live wall footage is good (we can pray we see an official release of the earls court and/or nassau gigs one time) I'm really stoked about this one!
- After waiting hours and hours, for iTunes to convert the file I watched it on my ipod and it looks great.
I have a couple of weeks off work soon so if you have not got the video on your site by then I'll have some free time to give you a hand(and finish off some other stuff).
If you want to try and put it up yourself here is how I would do it.
step 1. convert video to flv and upload to a server.
step 2. download a flv player that you can upload to a server.
step 3. use tags to embed the player in your webpage.
Good luck. - I have the files in different formats but bandwidth is an issue. Its almost maxed out so I'm afraid the mov file is all I'll be providing on this.
Just for this video podcast I had to upgrade my bandwidth and its costing me. I plan on downgrading the bandwidth to normal in one month but in the meantime I cannot fit anymore so its on you guys to covert. I'm sorry. - Another good converter program is Format Factory if someone is having trouble viewing the *.mov file. I've used it mainly for *.avi files which don't always seem to play nicely, and it does a great job preserving the original quality.
I believe Doc that a converter program like this may help you convert a file to a smaller size but still good quality.
Not sure if it works on a mac though. Just a thought. Its cool to have this podcast, still downloading it. - The free Prism software worked BEAUTIFULLY for me. It looks great both on my notebook and my 80G Zune. In .wmv format the video and audio were identical to the original .mov format. It converts to .avi,.wmv,.asf,.mpg,.3gp, .mp4,and .flv so whichever player you have you should be able to find a suitable format.
DO NOT REDISTRIBUTE WITHOUT PERMISSION!!!! - I'm attempting to use a program called Prism to convert to .wmv for my Zune. If anybody elses players out there use this u may want to try.
Their logo looks like the DSOTM cover!
I'll update. It looks like you can use this to convert to other video formats as well. - oi
you yet again outdid yourself on this one. excellent stuff, thanks for going through all the hazards in bringing this one together. great to actually see you, too ;) that dogs of war piece of yours is just ..wow!! really have to get to watch that film!
cheers, bernhard - Doc,
...this is a really COOL treat. I thought "The Beast Sync" worked well and it was fun to see/hear the Columbia click/que track show up ( I've always been puzzled about how something so central to Roger's stage production could have "leaked out"...? -- any ideas...???).
Oh yeah, the "screen test" at the end is most intriguing.....posted by: Michael from South Carolina on 2009-08-01 15:41:00
- Neat to finally see what we've been hearing all this time, Doc. I don't how it's possible, but you sound more 'Massachusetts' on this video than you normally do on the show. ;) Also, it always amazes me how music that sounds so timeless can accompany video that looks sooooo dated now. That Final Cut stuff sure looks old. Thanks for bringing it to us!
