Show #85 Release date: 25. May, 2007

Two weeks ago, 10th of May at London's Barbican Centre.  This incredible event was a tribute to the late Roger "Syd" Barrett, produced by Nick Laird-Clowes (of Dream Academy) with associate producer Joe Boyd (early Pink Floyd's producer and founder of legendary UFO club in London). Surprise performances from Roger Waters himself with Jon Carin then the entire current Pink Floyd line-up (David Gilmour, Richard Wright, Nick Mason) were absolutely unbelievable!

The numerous other artists performing Syd Barrett's music included Damon Albarn (Blur/Gorillaz), Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders), The Bees, Vashti Bunyan, Captain Sensible, Robyn Hitchcock. The house band included Andy Bell (bass, Oasis), Simon Finley (drums, Echo & The Bunnymen) and Ted Barnes (guitar, Beth Orton).  A remarkably fitting tribute to Roger "Syd" Barrett.  Doctored for supersound!

  • Doc,

Let's not forget the great Kevin Ayers! Wish you were on Sirius/XM with your own station. Thinking of getting rid of the crap. Even Deep Tracks sucks now...

  • Thank you so much for this wonderful tribute! Captain Sensible posted a blog on his myspace saying that the gig was not recorded, but \"knowing Floyd fans, it\'s bound to turn up.\"
I have e-mailed him with your website address. Also on his site, he states that some unscrupulous company have purchased Battersea Power Station, and, claiming it to be \"unsafe\" intend to demolish it and build a block of flats! I urge readers to go to his site and sign the online petition to save Battersea.

  • Hey Doc, I was one of the fortunate ones to be there that night it was a great evening and a tribute Syd would have been proud of, great PODCAST man, and I second the request for one of Roger\'s Earls Court Shows. I went on the Fri, night after the Madcap gig. It was the first time I have seen Roger live and it was a superb concert.

Hope all is well over that side of the water,

  • Yep Max thats the gig I was referring to, I was there too, I've been able to download it since then though, so no worries if it doesn't turn up here as a podcast.

Yeah that is weird that Roger didn't want to play with the rest of them, I hope they havent fallen out again.

  • Hi,
Thanks so much for posting this concert - I was lucky enough to be in the audience and the sound quality is fantastic! I was sitting in the stalls close to the Green Room and Dave Gilmour stood in the aisle behind me to listen to several sets (including Roger Waters). I offered the guy my seat which he very politely declined. It was amazing to nearly have Floyd re-united again and as I was (slightly) hurt in the stand collapse at Earls Court (I have the Tshirt and the TV appearance to prove it!) Pink Floyd means a heck of a lot to me. Musical highlight of the night for me was probably Captain Sensible's Astronomy Domine. Also being able to say than you to Nick Laird-Clowes, the guy who put it all together - he said that they had only secured Pink Floyd's appearance that day...
    Keep up the good work!

  • Thanks for the new podcast Doc, interesting stuff.

If it's possible could you please do a show on Roger's 5-11-07 show in London, I believe the name of the gig is 'No Stooges or Poodles'? This would mean a lot to me.

Thanks again and all the best.
