I always enjoy floyd's early records. Those years were there best...the rest were magic also but not that "crazy"...
Pink Floyd es parte de mi vida...gracias por darme cada mes algo más para seguir sorprendiéndome.

  • Jerry Garcia once said that once the music is out there, it's not ours any more, it's yours.

I agree with that sentiment completely. Whether the guys feel that their performances were up to snuff or not, there will be a market for it. If an official release is available, or is to become available, then it would be appropriate to remove the ROIO. Otherwise, I don't quite understand what's uh the deal.

Keep up all the good work, and we'll simply keep listening. These shows are out there, but so very rarely does the sound quality even equal. The Good Doctor doesn't like to post inferior content. His integrity and love of the music is obvious. There seems to be no reason not to evangelize for his mixes, nor his promotion of the band.

    This whole thing is silly.

  • Greetings from Canada.I just wasnt to say that I appreciate your work and I'm sorry to hear about the legal matter.I know Nick is very much against 'bootlegs' or,to be PC,unofficial recordings and Dave doesn't understand why people would be interested in them because of their 'poor quality' and Roger has said that it's an interesting hobby.I always looked at your podcasts as a non-profit radio show, therefore I see nothing morally or legally wrong with your shows. The Pink Floyd are perfectionists so its very unlikely they would ever officially release 90% of these recordings.
They should be happy that there is so much interest in their careers, however.Hopefully they realize that your podcasts are simple radio shows celebrating Pink Floyd's music for the fans.
Best of luck to you and I hope to hear more of your shows in the near future.
    Chers,Alan.

  • Hey Doc,
I agree with the masses here. Your a Floyd Scholar/Historian and definitely a grand source of free advertising for the Floyd promoters solo or otherwise. I'm 46 years old and I've been a Floyd fan since I was a child. My parents went to Floyd Concerts and we as a family have bought Floyd merchandise for many years. My father passed away a couple of years ago and I think I mentioned that dad would listen to your shows in the nursing home. He and the other residents loved them. I sincerely hope the MACHINE doesn't silence a tastefully presented forum of music and fellowship...a place we call home 'Brain Damage - The Definitive Pink Floyd Radio Show!'

    Shine On Doc!

Thank you, and thanks to Dave, Roger, Nick and Richard (RIP)..as well as all the great musicians they've collaborated with. You've helped them echo through time...

When I heard the intro, I was betting that the stuff on the chopping board was the On an Island/Live in Gdansk stuff, where there's a competition with the official release. I would hope this is a good omen of All That's to Come, though I'm not holding my breath.

  • Glad to add my voice to the chorus. To PF Management -- certain members of the band have made it clear that they do not want to release certain live recordings because they feel the quality of the recordings and/or performances is not up to Floyd standards. The band can maintain this standard with regards to recordings that are given the James Guthrie/Storm Thorgerson treatment - restored, remastered, repackaged, and sold (and eagerly purchased!) - while allowing more "vault" recordings to see the light of day. PLEASE consider working with the Doctor (and perhaps others like him who have shown great respect to Floyd recordings - you KNOW who they are) to release other live recordings as inexpensive downloads...or as free podcasts! The positive exposure and reignited interest in the band's history and back catalogue will benefit everyone - including your charity of choice. Thanks for listening to us. And thanks for being "kind and respectful" in your requests to the Doctor so far.

  • @Kenny... Thank you! Richard was a modest man to say the least. I'm pretty sure Richard while humble would think I was completely out of my mind for doing this podcast. He never really understood the fanaticism that surrounded the band.

Its well known amongst die hard fans that Gilmour/the Floyd aren't too fond of some performances they've given over the years despite popular opinion of contrary. Is Floyd overly self-critical? Definitely! All artists are of their own work. Its more of a quality control thing in their/Gilmour's eyes. There is some merit in that argument. However, it would be nice to see them go into the vault and release this stuff officially... donate the sales to Crisis or some other worthy cause...but again its a quality thing.

pink floyd management, if you are listening to us, the pink floyd fans,we urge you to reconsider any future negative decisions , regarding docs show. my god, ive been a pink floyd fan since i was 7 years old ,32 years ago! doc puts his heart into ,getting even future fans, to listen to pink floyd.
we as fans need his podcast and enjoy every aspect of pink floyd. this is why we love doc. these podcasts bring us, the history of floyd and the magic , to those who ,were to young to see these shows. if i were, you guys, i would hire doc, for anything floyd. doc is that GREAT! unfortunetly mr wrights voice was silenced last year, of an untimely death, please dont silence this, the music, the history, the magic of what is pink floyd, brought to us by the "doctor". if silenced, the to me, in my opinion, would be just as worst, as my favorite keyboard player, passing away, richard wright.
please keep floyd alive for all of us and generations after us, to enjoy. THANKYOU DOC!! WE ALL LOVE YOU AND WHAT YOU DO EACH AND EVERY MONTH, FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR ,PINK FLOYD HEARTS!RICHARD WRIGHT, WOULD HAVE GIVEN YOU, A BIG THUMBS UP ALSO, IF HE KNEW WHAT A FAN YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN DOING, THESE YEARS, FOR THE PINK FLOYD MAGIC TO LIVE ON! THUMBS WAY UP HIGH!

  • Simon: To the best of my knowledge, Pink Floyd is not a publicly traded company, so I think the management in this case acts on behalf of the best interest of the musicians. Holding the artists in high regard while holding their management in contempt is divisive and counterproductive; we should keep our focus on the positive value that Matt provides.

posted by: Keith Handy on 2009-11-17 20:05:00

  • Just to add, the Doc goe out of his way to present this in a "radio show" format - that means deliberate intejections between sets and tasteful but obvious speak-overs on intro and outro sections of shows. This effectively hi-jacks anyone who might want to turn these podcasts into bootlegs and that's as it should be. And also, many of these shows are never going to be released because of the sound quality - this really is a place for the hardcore fans to continue their appreciation until the next official archive release. And yes, lets make that an Animals concert mixing the songs from the (vocally much) tighter European shows and the "wilder" US stadium leg.

I did considered suggesting a 'studio' version, made up of the parts from albums where they exist, but I suppose that is out of the question now.

I love Pink Floyd and, like everyone else that flocks to floydpodcast.com will continue to do purchase everything put out by Floyd and its members. That said, I could fall out of love very quickly with Floyd 'corporate' if it tries to take out the only source of 'new' & 'live' material from the band that I have, lovingly treated by a man that clearly cares very deeply about quality and who knows wnat he's doing. The only way I know of displaying displeasure to corporate types is by not buying their product anymore. That's how strongly I feel.

Thanks for all your great shows, Doc.

posted by: firstinspace on 2009-11-15 02:00:00

  • I don't feel Pink Floyd's image is hurt in any way by the existence of the show - the Doc is very careful to present the material in the most respectful fashion, and using the best sound quality possible. If this material was officially released, I would surely buy it. But since the material on this site has not been released, I look at this show as a free service of musical history. It actually INCREASES the mystery of the band. Record companies have historically hired archivists and research people to do this kind of stuff, with a eye for potential releases. It's great that the Doc is willing to do this for free.

He has also offered the files in a way that they will not fit on a standard CD. This should also discourage any attempts for someone to "cash in" on this material.

I wish every band had a promoter as skilled and commited as the Doc.

I am 32, and have purchased every single Floyd album AND solo album in one format or another, and in many cases in MULTIPLE formats (as I started on TAPES). I have paid good money to see Floyd in 94, Dave in 06, and Roger in 07. Any official release, I will buy. LEAVE THE DOC ALONE, as he ain't hurting your business.

You wanna start goin' through the archives and releasing this stuff? GREAT. I'll buy it. But until then, the Doc provides a service not just to the fans, but to the legacy of this band.

So far, Floyd Management has kindly and respectfully asked me to remove "The Man And The Journey" but I removed a couple of others on my own volition. Although cautiously, I'm thinking positively because if they wanted me to stop altogether, they would of said so.

@Dan I, Mike... Perhaps such positive comments about this podcast might sway their assessment and allow them to see the value in it. Floyd is watching! Say how you feel.

We were the kids who raced to the album store for every Floyd LP, 8-track, cassette, and CD on the day it was released. We grew into the adults (more or less) who still race to the store, now for all the DVDs and multi-disc sets like 'Oh, By The Way',as well as David's and Roger's solo works, as well as most any obscure thing with a Pink Floyd connection. We saw and/or bought the films "The Committee","More", "Zabriski Point", "La Carrera Panamericana" and "La Vallee" for the soundtracks.

We're the folks who fly across the country-or the Ocean-to patronize a new tour in a special venue. We buy the books, shirts, and gear. We know the trivia, love the history, know where and when the songs were debuted, and stand EAGER to BUY the next good thing from Floyd.

We gather here at Brain Damage to CELEBRATE Pink Floyd-the Best Band Rock music ever produced, and to listen and learn from "Doc",the most knowledgeable "Floyd DJ" .....hell, lets be honest- THE most knowledgeable "Floyd scholar" in the business.

We are at the CORE of Pink Floyd's fan base, and this podcast, Brain Damage, keeps us tuned in, eager, informed and 'alive' as fans.

You should hire Doc...(or at the very least, pay his hosting fees)...this is the best FREE advertising in the world.
