Show #104 Release date: 9. February, 2008

Tried and true, is the color of blue.  Blue is a teardrop from my eye.  Blue is the notes of a lullaby, and blue is the breeze from the sky.  Blue flows smoothly in streams.  Blue is pretty nice it seems.  I like blue in my dreams. But, then there’s this, my favorite blue, my latest from me to you.  No playlist for this one... makes it more fun.  Enjoy.

  • Well Doc, you will have to go some to beat this one. The hard work you put into it shows through. How about for the next CDR podcast giving us the entire BBC recording of Dark Side of the Moon which you gave a nice taste of not so long ago?

  • Aaaah yes - just like the old days - much prefer the compilation type shows with no set list - almost like a real gig.More work for you Doc but I appreciate it.I already have most of the complete shows you've put up for a while,so it's usually the secret tracks at the end that surprise me.(Do the BBC!!!!!)This one kept me tuned in all the way through.Oh by the way (where have i heard that before?),remember the discussion about editing you out of your own 'cast to fit a show onto disc? Well i have a best of compilation of your shows which will forever preserve the sound of you dropping the ashtray into the trash can, amongst other diagnoses .Hope you enjoyed your non cigarette - see you next time.

  • Bob was in the band yes, he is doing lead guitar.

  • Is it Bob Klose playing that INSANE lead on Lucy Leave? I always pictured that as Syd. It's really good and weird. Love the tone...love everything about that recording actually.

Thanks for all the effort put into this page it is much appreciated!

  • nope, no playlist for this one... the element of surprise in a shuffled, theme based show like this, makes it more fun when songs come out of the blue...

Some of you are wondering who's doing the version of "Set The Controls..." with the massive drum solo... that would be Blue Floyd in Providence 26. January, 2000 at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel (recorded by yours truly)

posted by: Doc on 2008-02-11 12:42:00

  • Very interesting to hear the Pink & Floyd blues basis for the name. For the playlist puzzle maybe you could host the list elsewhere and link to it so as people don't see it who don't want to until the episode is over. Either another html page or just a .txt file uploaded somewhere. Good show, thanks.

  • I live in a cold and dark country in the north of Norway, and it's like the dark periode now. But finally the light has started to show. Today morning, I listened to the podcast on the bus for school, and I got the first real sunrise, and a perfect blue sky. The whole world felt blue, and with the music on top it was just perfect. I hurried to take up my cell and shot some photos. I hope you can survive the bad quality..

  • Well done Doc, a lot of thought and time went into this one. Great range of music and I thought you highlighted how the different members of the band each contributed to the whole by featuring some of their own work. Truly great show thank you

  • Doc, as a life long Mets fan, I probably hate the Yankees as much as you do! Your Sox have my full support...unless we meet in October. Next time you're in NYC, look me up!

  • Hey Mikey, Yes Congrats to the Giants... but the Yankees still suck. GO SOX!

  • 'Using my imagination' causes me to think of the color GREEN. After all... Green is the colour... that's makes this Floyd Fan Smile.

It may be a very slippery slope to wander down the influence road - but that is a risk I'd love to take (or suggest???). I like how the Doc surgically augments his show with revealing tidbits of background info - and this addition of Syd's influences is another Shine-ing example. Thanks again, Doc. You've made my wife's honey-do list more tolerable today...

  • This was a neat concept. You should try it with all the colors in the DSotM rainbow!

I also commend you on your skill at using source material with a wide range of fidelity (or lack thereof) and still making the whole show sound consistent.

  • Lucy leave was pretty groovy! What was the line up for those recordings, was Bob Klose still in the band at that time? 'cause I wonder who was playing the lead guitar.

...and yes, Crumbling Land is definitely, 100% pure Pink Floyd and it features David mostly on vocals with Rick harmonizing. That's probably what's throwing you off.

posted by: Doc on 2008-02-10 07:26:00

  • Great Podcast. By the way, is Crumbling land really a Pink Floyd song? The vocals often dont sound like Gilmour on that song.
