Show #152 Release date: 29. May, 2010

Berlin is one of the cities I absolutely love.  You've heard the special version of "Echoes" from this gig before here on Brain Damage but I've never featured the entire show... till now.  Doctored up for super sound, we go to Berlin to the infamous
Sportspalast, 05. June, 1971

Set 1:
01. Careful With That Axe, Eugene
02. Fat Old Sun
03. Embryo
05. Return of the Son of Nothing

Set 2:

06. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun
07. Cymbaline
08. A Saucerful Of Secrets

Encore:
09. Astronomy Domine
10. Pink Blues

Running Time: 2h:16m:35sec

I'm having a lot of problems uploading this to my host provider which I'll probably dump soon.  I hope this works.  Anyway, they decided to completely change ("screw up") the way everything works, leaving the end user (me) to fend for himself.  I think I figured it out though.  : )

  • I'm struggling to find how "Echoes" had an extended beginning at all.

  • hey doc,

    really great podcast to come back home to! been off for a little holiday, wandering the english countryside, plus visiting battersea and royal albert hall, what a moment seeing the former with my own eyes hahaha ;))

    funnily enough I was cathcing that interview you feature the bit from at the start, the commentary is absolutely hilarious, typical intellecetual german speaking music journalism of the last century, stuff like this still exists, also here in austria. baffeling.. but entertaining in the end..

    really love this show, great job with the sound!!

    cheers,

  • I think I prefer these lyrics, to the more common version.

  • The alternate lyrics for Return of the Son of Nothing (Echoes) are;

    Planets singing face to face
    Bound to the air of life, how sweet!
    If purposely we might embrace
    The perfect union deep in space

    Ever might this once relent
    And give us leave to shine as one
    Our two lights {singing better
    Than one light can}

    And in that longing to be one
    The parting {suns shine as one}
    I'll see you've got to travel on
    And on and on, around the sun

    {...} = difficult to make out

  • Doc-

    Another fine podcast, I am just LOVING the early stuff you're rocking the last couple of months! I have over 50 live Floyd shows, and have NEVER heard this show before, so thanks again.

    It seems strange to me that Pink Floyd WITHOUT Roger has now existed longer than Pink Floyd WITH Roger.

    Wow, I am REALLY getting old...

  • Thanks guys! The track at the very very end is Korn with their version of ABITW. It was recorded at the Columbiahalle, Berlin, 25. June 2004.

  • Can someone transcribe the lyrics on echoes I can't seem to catch them all.
    Doc, Any chance of you pasting together a version of echoes containing all lyrics from all versions, not sure if it would work, maybe if you sourced similar quality material.
    Anyway great show.
