Show #136 Release date: 30. June, 2009

Thank you so much for all the kind words.  My hearing is about 80% better.  It’s nice to hear somewhat in stereo again.  Now, while I’m still on the mend, here’s a neat little surprise I have for you.  I’m amazed that as soon as I step down for a brief moment, someone is ready to step up.  Brain Damaged listener, Luke of Cardiff, Wales put together something nifty I think you might like.

Luke writes…
“I'm just finishing up a Pink Floyd mix I guess you'd call it...it's like an album length mix of songs, sounds, and other Floyd related stuff.  It's called Wish They Were Here: An Assorted Piece For Pink Floyd Lunatics. Don't know whether you'd be interested in hearing it?  I've looked through the archive and don't think you ever feature mixes or anything like that sent in or anything, but maybe it would be possible to give it a shoutout if people want to listen? I mainly made it for myself but would be cool if some other fans could enjoy it too”.

Luke goes on to say, “It's just over 60 minutes, and has a few vague themes to it. Syd, being one of them. It's not even particularly a mix featuring all my favourite songs so much as songs that I really like that seemed to fit to make an interesting hour. Hope you have the time to check it out man, and maybe even mention it on your show if you like it”.

Luke, you did a nice job, so many thanks for this!  I’m sure it will be enjoyed by thousands and fetch many comments.

  • Good job Luke! Loved this pod.

Makes me wonder, though, how a good mix-up of Roger, David, Rick and Nick's solo works would sound.

    Any volunteers?

Good to hear you're on the mend Doc!!!

  • Wow, just saw this today. Thanks alot for putting this up Doc, that's wicked. Guess it came in handy in the end hahaha.

Glad you people enjoyed it, was a lot of fun to put together and I'm not very experienced in editing audio but gave it a crack. Very glad other fans of the Floyd like this, makes it a little more worthwhile. Thanks guys! :)

I have since checked out podcast 99 is it? Probably my favourite one, love it. Someone asked for my email I believe, so here it is: skip_2_the_end@hotmail.com

Thanks again everyone and I can't wait for the next 'cast Doc. Nice one.

  • Hey Doc.

Looks like the special guest at Jeff Beck's big Royal Albert Hall show yesterday was Mr. Gilmour himself. Apparently did a setlist of a song called "Jerusalem" (which is on Youtube by now, never heard it before but nearly moved me to tears), Beck's "Hi Ho Silver Lining" with both of them doing vocals, and what was reported as "David's 'Where Were You'", which I of course expect to have been "Coming Back to Life".

If any recordings exist, I'd freakin' love to hear them on the next show.

    Regards,

    Evan

  • Nice job Luke - at long last the Nile makes its appearance on Brain Damage :-) Love this song - even once pestered the Doc to get it on the show.

Doc, hope you're up to "11" soon enough. As someone who has partial hearing loss - too many concerts and mowed lawns as a kid - the, ahem, doctor told me - I can relate to your situation.

Now - Happy 4th to all who celebrate!

  • Diolch yn fawr iawn! A very nice compilation-mixing of Floydian Sounds for my ears. I love it. I played it 4 times on one day and just can't get enough of it. Very addictive.

  • Excellent Luke!
I think this is the best Floyd mix I've heard. I espicially love the quotes from the guys and Syd coming through on the radio. Makes it feel more structured than other mixes.
In short: "I think its marvelous!"

  • Luke,

this is really well-done & will get play here at my house.

    Thanks for sharing.

By the way, you mentioned that you'd not seen any mixes featured in the archive. In November of 2007 ("Dream Mix" podcast # 99) Doc included two mixes in that cast...."Dark Side of a Dream" & "Passage" as well as a live mix re-creation of WYWH, very well done in itself.
